  1. Virginia Bellew sent this comment: The musical world lost an important person when Richard died. He had given concerts in Europe and Asia as well as the United States. Richard was a thrilling piano performer as well as teacher and adjudicator, exhibiting interest in the students and giving helpful advice. He studied with Wendall Keeny when a student at Furman, and with Mme. Boulanger when in Paris. I am fortunate to have known both him and his wife, Sanna, a native Greenvillian. They have lived in Kansas City, Kansas, where he was professor of piano at the Kansas School of Music. They have five children, several of whom are musicians. Richard was last in Greenville late last year, when he and one of his daughters, a talented soprano gave a joint recital (he playing her accompaniments as well as his solo performance) when they gave a memorable recital commemorating the 75th year anniversary of Buncombe Street Methodist Church.
